Sold Out!45 Mins
Talk
Beginner
There is a silent leadership crisis going on right now in workplaces around the world. The generation shift and the changing needs of current workplaces are forcing an older generation of leaders to evolve their leadership styles. The crisis is in how these leaders either are not even aware that their leadership needs to change or are aware of it but do not know what to do about it and no one around them can have the the right conversations with them to help them. This conference explores this silent leadership crisis from the perspective of an integral coach that works with these leaders in various organizations on a daily basis .
This is not a session of blame, it is a session where participants can better understand some of the organizational and people dynamics they are living through at work as a person. This talk is for directors, line managers, software architects, project managers, team leads because of their key roles in organizations but it is also for anyone else in a leadership role that feels their leadership is ineffective.
This talk is centered around how to bring collaborative and authentic leadership to the workplace and will also allow participants to reflect on their own leadership styles. The content is based on Steffan's personal experience coaching in organization over the last five years.

In this presentation, Alain Fortier, the General Manager of the OSS group and Steffan Surdek, agile coach at Pyxis Technologies will talk about the first year of this journey. They will explore how putting the focus on learning by doing helped the management team as well as the development find better ways of working together.
Participants will hear many stories about the lessons we learned on this journey and how the pieces are starting to come together after a year. We will share stories around various experiments we tried and how we were able to build on these experiments to foster and enable a culture of learning by doing.

Coaching agile teams through narratives
Steffan SurdekAgile Coach and Trainer, Certified Integral CoachPyxis Culturesschedule 6 years ago
Sold Out!90 Mins
Talk
Beginner
Every team has their own story about how they got together, how they are currently working together and where they are going together. The challenge though is that often, team members each have a slightly different version or understanding of those stories.
Ever notice how news channels typically use an underlying narrative to drive how they are presenting a breaking story over the course of several days? Narratives are also useful when coaching software development teams because they stimulate the imagination, provoke hard conversations in a non-threatening way and help teams build a common understanding of where they currently are and where they would like to be as a group. Through an integral development perspective, this talk will provide participants with some basic tools to build narratives to tell the stories of their team.
Although having teams build their current and future narratives together is one of the keys to helping them reach the next level, it is not enough to create lasting change on your teams. The second part of the talk will focus on how to use these narratives to guide and coach teams towards their future narrative.
This talk is geared towards managers, Scrum Masters, Agile coaches and anyone else interested in learning tools to bring change to a team.
