Being fierce is to show heartfelt and powerful intensity. These are qualities we bring to our jobs every day we work. We are fiercely protective of our teams–pushing ourselves to be better, to reach for things we didn’t think were possible, to trust, work, and play hard with our teams. We are fiercely protective of our organizations–all of our co-workers deserve that same trust, protection and ability to dream the impossible. In its infancy, Agile was about being fierce. It’s possible that we’ve lost touch with the movement–the intensity behind what we were meant to protect. Mile High Agile 2019 hopes to bring us all back to the heart of Agile. Will you be fierce with us?
Be Fierce ... standing on the edge
This track is dedicated to leading thought in the industry. We are looking for sessions on emerging or experimental ideas that are starting to get traction in the industry. These sessions are intended to challenge attendees to think differently about what they know. Topics in this track include: Dynamics of distributed teams; Social media & the impact of short attention spans on teams; Diversity on teams; How AI/ML is going to change teams; Burnout, how to identify it in yourself and others, and what to do about it; Coaching by influence vs. manipulation; ethics in software development, etc.
Be Fierce ... learning something new
Agilists know the power of helping teams learn by doing, so this workshop track is intended on taking that concept and applying it to the Agile practitioner. We are looking for solid workshops that promises both a lively experience for the attendee, but also take-aways that they can apply in their day jobs tomorrow. This should be a mix of raw fun and concrete skill-building. Workshops we are looking for include: Value stream mapping; Advanced facilitation techniques; 20 minute games for scrum masters; Management 3.0 games; How to design the perfect meeting; How to use data to protect your team, and
Be Fierce ... managing your career
For those of you new to Agile, or looking for the next step in your career, this track aims to help you! Attendees of talks in this track will leave with a better understanding of the industry as a whole, what makes sense in their fields, and identify what career steps they should be taking. We are looking for sessions in the following topic areas: Making sense of all of the Agile certifications; Building transferable skills (such as moving from Project Manager to Scrum Master); Defining possible career tracks for Agile Coaches, SM, POs, Devs, Managers; advice on finding organizational advocacy; How to be a great mentor or mentee; and tips and tricks on how to get into consulting.
Be Fierce ... envisioning your product
This track is for attendees who are interested in learning more about product ownership or management and is intended on focusing on how to inspire with product vision, while also being practical about getting the work done. Examples of sessions we are looking for in this track include: New and solid techniques on roadmapping; Art and science of estimating business value; How to prioritize, budget and forecast work; Discovering new tools that are helping product folks get their jobs done; Using mind mapping to brainstorm user stories; Using hypothesis driven outcomes and data to measure success, etc.
Be Fierce ... stepping into Agile
This track is intended on providing solid content that will help launch new practitioners (and those of us who have been around for a while and are looking for fresh perspectives) into success. We are looking for talks in the following areas: What does servant leadership mean and how do you get it; Tips and strategies for influencing leadership; How to help your team get useful customer input; The Product Owner role in a nutshell for Scrum Masters; Basic communication and facilitation techniques; Scrum vs. kanban vs. XP; Basic status for agilists; Top tips for product owners, etc.
Be Fierce ... building your technical chops
Many new agilists lack confidence in the technical underpinnings of teams. Does this mean they can’t understand the concerns and challenges technical teams face daily? This track is to help build that bridge–to educate non-techies so they can become better allies for development teams. We are looking for technical experts to share what they think everyone else should know. Sessions we are looking for include: Microservices for coaches and scrum masters; Understanding legacy code and strategies your dev team may take; Testing for everyone; DevOps metrics for beginners; Hypothesis-Driven development; The state of CI/CD from 10,000 feet; Github 101, and really any talk that goes into “why” a technical underpinning is important to an Agile team.
