location_city Denver schedule May 30th 02:00 - 03:00 PM place Centennial B people 43 Interested

We need to rethink how we educate our students. Most students are not prepared for the demands of the 21st century workplace. While they may have some technical knowledge, they lack the soft skills (communication, collaboration, and creativity) to hit the ground running in a team environment. This presentation will demonstrate how a group of students used Scrum to manage and prepare their academic research papers, multi-media presentations, and the lessons they learned along the way.

Outline/Structure of the Talk

20 minute presentation on how Agile works in schools: the need for soft skills in today's workforce, how Agile and Scrum methodology can work in education

30 minute presentation from students on: using Scrum, pros and cons of working in teams, how students took over the Scrum Master role in a coup d'etat, and what they learned from their retrospectives.

10 minute Q & A

Learning Outcome

Participants will have an understanding of how Agile and Scrum methodologies can transform education. They will be able to ask students directly about their experiences using Scrum and what lessons these students hope to take with them as they continue their education.

Target Audience

Anyone who is interested in how Agile can be used effectively in education.
